What is aluminum foil made into?
Foil packaging can be made into wrapping foil, semi-rigid packaging such as pie plates and food trays, and as flexible packaging such as gum or candy wrappers. Aluminum foil is shredded, cleaned, melted and mixed with a pure aluminum base, then recast into new aluminum products. This basic melt-and-recast process eliminates the mining, shipping and refining processes necessary to create new aluminum from bauxite ore. Bauxite ore is refined into alumina (aluminum oxide), one of the primary feedstocks for aluminum metal.
