WHAT IS ALUMINIUM CHLOROHYDRATE?
Aluminium Chlorohydrate, also known as aluminium chloride, is a synthetic organic chemical that is topically used under the arms as a deodorant. Aluminium Chloride (AlCl3 H2O2) is used as a topical antiperspirant or body deodorant, which acts by constricting the pores of the skin. It is one of several aluminium salts employed by the cosmetics industry. Aluminium Chloride is also known as hydrated Aluminium Chloride. Aluminium Chlorohydrate is a chemically active form of chlorine which is emulsified enabling it to plug and close underarm pores. When this compound comes into contact with organic matter (e.g. skin tissue) the chlorine attacks and breaks down chemically. TOXICOLOGY Anhydrous aluminium chloride has a corrosive and errant effect on the skin, respiratory tract and eyes. The toxic affect is caused by the evolution of hydrochloric acid when the product is exposed to moist air. The resulting respiratory difficulties vary from mild irritation to coughing.
