What is all of the liquid in with the smoked products?
The “liquid” or “juice” you find in the retort package or jars of Copper River Salmon is the salmon oil contained within the meat. During smoking some of the oil separates from the meat and is seen as a liquid. This liquid is all natural, contains lots of heart healthy Omega 3 oils and adds to the rich and robust flavor of the Copper River Salmon. We suggest saving some of this oil and adding it to your favorite recipes. What is a retort? A retort is a package that looks like a foil pouch. The salmon you order in boxes all come in retort pouches. These pouches allow no light or air to enter, maintaining product quality and allowing for an extended shelf life without refrigeration. How do I get the salmon out of the retort? Place the retort on a table or flat surface. Remember there will be healthy oils that may drip out of the pouch if you choose to open it bottom side first.
