What is Alice in Wonderland Syndrome?
This is a real health condition also known as Todd’s syndrome. It’s named after the popular children’s novel written by Lewis Carroll because the symptoms of this affliction result in distortions of human perception experienced by Alice in the novel.
Alice in Wonderland syndrome is a neurological condition where the sufferer’s visual, touch, and hearing senses are affected and they experience unusual changes in perception. For example, the individual might be confused to the size and shape of their body parts since they will appear too small or too big. The physical environment surrounding the person also experiences scale distortions and the ground may seem too close and corridors too long.
Interestingly, this syndrome has nothing to do with the eyes malfunctioning. The eyes are perfectly normal. These distortions are purely a result of a unusual sense of perception. Hallucinations may also result.
