The Athens-Limestone Association of REALTORS (ALAR) was established under the name Athens Board of REALTORS, with the National Association of REALTORS charter issued on May 15, 1969. The name change from Athens Board of REALTORS to the Athens-Limestone Association of REALTORS was made to more accurately describe the area served, and was approved by the National Association of REALTORS in December, 2003. ALAR is governed by elected Officers and Board of Directors, and is comprised of REALTOR Members and Affiliate Members. REALTOR Members are licensed real estate professionals who have met the requirements for membership in the local, state and national associations. Affiliate Members are those who are engaged in other aspects of the real estate industry and choose to become members of the Association because of their interest in the real estate industry.
