What is AGS position on Title VII Funding?
The American Geriatrics Society (AGS) strongly endorses efforts to support Title VII of the Public Health Service Act. Title VII funding is critical to geriatric faculty fellowships, GACA and GEC initiatives, which are the only federal programs designed to address access to quality healthcare, improve diversity of the healthcare workforce and recruit and retain health care professionals in medically underserved areas. Furthermore, Title VII funding for geriatrics training specifically addresses the evident geriatrician shortage in the U.S. and serves to educate academic geriatricians at this crucial period. AGS’ briefing on Title VII serves to inform policymakers and geriatrics health care providers about the impact of this funding on the provision of care for the aging population and what is at stake if this funding is eliminated.
