What is aeronautical engineering, and what kinds of subjects do you study for the degree?
It is essentially the science of flight and the art of aircraft or spacecraft design. Just ask yourself what makes an aircraft fly, how is the aircraft constructed to make it safe, how is it propelled, how is it controlled, and how is it operated, and you can see how complicated an aircraft is? Aeronautical engineers in particular are involved with atmospheric flight, while aerospace engineering refers more generally to atmospheric and space flight. The aeronautical or aerospace engineer also addresses issues associated with the integration of all the sub-systems and components that comprise the aerospace vehicle. There are subjects studied in the curriculum. You take lecture courses, laboratories and tutorials, and both individual and group projects are conducted. Assessment is by a combination of examinations and coursework submissions (written reports, oral presentations).
