What is ADS-B service?
ADS-B avionics allow aircraft to broadcast their identity, position, altitude and other information at rapid intervals (approximately every minute). This information is picked up by ADS-B receivers on the ground and forwarded to air traffic controllers. ADS-B avionics is now an option on most new commercial aircraft, and most international aircraft are currently being upgraded to ADS-B capability. For more than 10 years, SITA has enabled the delivery of aircraft position reporting and controller-pilot data link communications. This was delivered primarily through SITA Satellite AIRCOM Service and has been available to the majority of air-navigation service providers, including: • FAA (United States) • Eurocontrol (Europe) • Airservices Australia • Indonesia PAP-1 • Airports Authority of India ADS-B operates on the same principle – the partnership owns, operates and maintains the required ADS-B infrastructure, and delivers the ADS-B data to contracted customers.
