What is admission to candidacy?
Students must file a formal petition for admission to candidacy for a master’s degree. This is not required for students in endorsement-only programs. Formal admission to candidacy is based on a review of the student’s record following the completion of at least 18 hours of graduate work at Morningside College including EDUC 501 Educational Research. Students must have a 3.0 GPA on this work. Students must exhibit proficiency in oral and written English based on coursework and file a program completion plan that includes a self-assessment and goal-setting statement. The application for admission to candidacy must be submitted to the Graduate Office by October 1 of the academic year in which the student plans to graduate.
