What is adaptive/assistive technology?
Adaptive or assistive technology is any technology used by disabled people to do things that might otherwise be difficult or impossible (for example, a wheelchair or a magnifying glass). Many disabled people must use specialist software or hardware to enable them to read print or work with computers and to access information in the same way as everyone else. Some people cannot use a mouse; others cannot use a keyboard. Some users may need voice input or screen readers, screen magnifiers such as Zoomtext, or modified keyboards or operating systems.
