What is adaptation to climate change?
Adaptation to climate change refers to adjustments in natural or human systems in response to actual or expected climate changes or their effects. The impacts of climate change may be harmful or beneficial to people, economic activities and/or the environment. The extent of the impacts associated with climate change on ecosystems, regions and sectors of the economy depends not only on the sensitivity of those systems to climate change, but also on their ability to adapt. Adaptation to climate change may be done after the climate impacts have been observed (such as migrations following a rise in sea level) or proactively, anticipating potential impacts.
