What is Active Learning vs. Passive Learning?
Passive Learning: Sitting in a classroom for 50 or more minutes taking notes. The lecture goes straight from your mouth, into the students’ heads, down to their hands, through their pens, and onto their papers. No thinking required! Passive! Active Learning: Students sit in a classrom for 10-15 minutes listening to you lecture. You pause for approximately 5 minutes to allow students to think about the material, discuss the material with a neighbor, and then your resume lecture for another 10-15 minutes. Students become mentaly active and are actively involved in the learning process.
