What is ActionScript?
ActionScript was originally based on Java-Script and is the scripting language embedded into Flash. The flexibility of ActionScript is the power behind the interactive nature of Flash, allowing it to become an extremely viable gaming platform. ActionScript is the ECMAScript-based programming language used for scripting Adobe® Flash® content and applications. The recently released Adobe Flash Player 9 includes ActionScript 3.0, which is based on the ECMA-262, 3rd edition standard with extensions for classes, namespaces, optional strong typing of variables, and other features. These ActionScript 3.0 extensions are expected to be included within the next revision to the ECMA-262 standard due out next year.
