Accident forgiveness is exactly that, you are forgiven for an at-fault accident, at least in the eyes of your insurer. Most insurance companies rate their drivers on a six-star rating system. Typically if you are involved in an accident that is your fault then your rating will be lowered. So if you have a five-star rating after an accident you will be lowered to a zero. This can significantly increase your California car insurance rate. Accident forgiveness varies by insurance company.
