What is AAP?
The Adoption Assistance Program (AAP) provides financial assistance, includ-ing help with medical care, to families who adopt children who would otherwise remain in long-term care. Question: Who is eligible for AAP? Answer: The public adoption agency determines whether or not a child is eligible for AAP benefits. Children are deemed eligible for AAP if they have been declared “dependents” of the court. Child Welfare Services are involved with all “dependent” children. If a child is placed through a private adoption agency or relinquished through a Kinship adoption they are often not eligible for AAP. An eligibility status, however, may be determined if the county the child resides in is willing to certify that the child was at risk for dependency prior to their relinquishment.
