What is a “Zone” for delivery charges?

Because the cost of fuel continues to rise, it was determined that a delivery charge, based on distance, needed to be instituted. This covers our cost of fuel and wear/tear on our vehicles. While we could charge full round-trip fees, we decided that a one-way zone charge would be most effective and accepted by our clients. A “zone” is a 5 mile incremental distance on a map, in any direction from our facility. Zone 1 = within 5 miles ($5 charge) Zone 2 = within 10 miles ($57.5charge) Zone 3 = within 15 miles ($10 charge) Zone 4 = within 20 miles ($12.50 charge) Zone 5 = within 25 miles ($15 charge) Zone 6 = within 30 miles ($17.50 charge) Distances into the mountains, essentially beyond El Rancho, are charged at a rate as determined on the most efficient route, through MapQuest or GoogleMap, one way and are charged at the IRS reimbursement rate for 2008 of $0.585/mile. There is no hourly rate charge for this type of travel. Therefore, a delivery point of 55 miles, with the first 5 miles
