What is a worship leader?
– Worshippers, and especially worship leaders, are identified with the Levites of old, the priestly tribe of Israel that attended the tabernacle and ministered to the lord in His temple. The origin of the Levites as being set apart is quite intriguing, as you have read in the passage from Exodus in the header above. Why did God sanctify them and set them apart for Himself? Because in obeying God s command to go out and kill their fellow Israelites for their sins, they showed that they held nothing back and went all out for God. That is the true nature of a worshipper, and it is also the spiritual heritage of worship leaders. If we want to be in front of God s people leading them into God s presence or into spiritual warfare, we have to show that we will hold nothing back and give up everything to follow Him. – The worship leader is just another follower; one sheep among many.
