What is a WINS server and is there a central service?
WINS stands for Windows Internet Name Service. A WINS server holds mappings from a NetBIOS name (the name of your computer in the Network Control Panel) to your computer’s IP address. If you want other people to access your computer without knowing the fully qualified DNS name across subnets, then using the same WINS server is the solution.
