What is a Wildlife Biologist?
Wildlife biologists study and manage wild animals, their habits, and habitats. Technically wildlife biologists study both wild plants and animals; however, the term is commonly used to refer to those individuals working with wild animals. Wildlife biologists must work with animals, ecosystems, and people to accomplish their objectives.

Conservation of wildlife includes: The preservation of all species, the enhancement of wildlife habitat, the control of wildlife problems, and the consumptive use of wildlife. All species of animals are of interest to wildlife biologists. The rapid extinction of many species of animals is an increasing concern. Therefore, a wildlife biologist must be prepared to deal with complex ecological, sociological, and political problems that can cause the extinction of a species. At the same time they are concerned about endangered species wildlife biologists must also deal with locally abundant species that can cause serious ecological damage in an area. A wildlife biologist is a person who studies animals and things related to fauna and the surrounding environment. In particular, the biologist wants to know how the animal interacts with its environment, behavior patterns, diseases, movements and other threats. The purpose of this is to help better understand not only how animals react amongst themselves, but with other animals and the environment as a whole. A wildlife biologist may also be responsible for helping to determine a number of different policies. These include what is acceptable in terms of development by humans, the effects of deforestation, good hunting practices and perhaps even helping with animal rescue, rehabilitation and relocation. A wildlife biologist is a scientist that specializes in studying wild animals. Many work for governments, everything from city, State to Federal. The luck ones find a private firm or organization to work for where the real money is at. They go to college for four to six years and get at least a Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree. Many of their summers during school are taken up working intern or part time jobs with State Department of Natural Resources or lucky ones get a Federal slot. This is all to build a resume so you can find and get a paying job after college. Pathology is studying dead animals in order to learn more about the animal.
