What is a Webcast?
A webcast, sometimes called a webinar or web conference, is a way to hold interactive meetings, presentations and conferences over the Internet. Unlike video conferencing, webcasting allows groups of a few to a few thousand people to simultaneously log on from anywhere in the world, at home or work – all they need is a computer and an Internet connection. Viewers can see and hear the event live and instantly interact with the presenter. The webcast can also be viewed later on demand. Webcasting is the most versatile way to communicate your message.
Simultaneous transmission of live or delayed audio or video programming over the World Wide Web to all who own the equipment needed to receive it, the Internet counterpart of broadcasting via radio or television. In a narrower sense, to send the same web-based content (audio, video, graphics, text) to a group of Internet users, based on their individual needs or interests. Synonymous with netcast. -From the Online Dictionary of Library and Information Science (www.wcsu.edu/library/odlis.
