What is a waffle weave drying towel and why use it?
A. Drying is another stage where a foreign material has to come into contact with the car’s paint work. If the car is not washed, or rinsed properly, bits of grit could still be on the surface of the car. The best option is to leave a car to dry naturally, but unfortunately, due to the impurities in the water you’re left with white stains on the paint work and windows where the water has run. The excess water needs to be removed before it dries, and a popular method is a chamois (also known as a shammy!). Once again, this is a flat material and if you haven’t removed every single bit of dirt from the car it will inflict swirl marks, just like a sponge. A chamois is not very good at soaking up water so to dry one particular area, you need to do 7 or 8 or even more, passes over it, squeezing out the excess water in between passes. That means more time in contact with the paint and more likelihood of damage.
