What is a W-4 and how many allowances should I claim?
The Form W-4, Employee’s Withholding Allowances Certificate, determines how much federal income tax to deduct from your pay. You will receive this form in Human Resources after you are hired for your job. Anyone working and receiving a paycheck from the University must complete this form at the beginning of your employment. It is beyond the scope of duties of the Payroll Office to advise you of how many allowances to claim on your W-4. For more information, visit www.irs.gov .
