What is a Vocational Education Credential?
The vocational education credential is valid in California in publicly supported vocational education, Regional Occupational Programs (ROP’s), Regional Occupational Centers (ROP/C), and most adult education programs – available in almost all cities or areas throughout the state. The vocational credential may also be used in jail and prison educational programs. Each school district is independent; there is no central hiring agency. A list of many of the schools is available on this website. This LEA notifies most of the bay area schools of newly credentialed teachers, and we frequently hear of teachers being contacted as a result. Employment is primarily part time, hourly, with salaries averaging in the range of $25 – $35+ per hour. Benefits vary widely from district to district. Some ROP’s are able to offer contracts with better packages. As with all teaching, preparation time is required, and prep time is often not paid.
