What is a virtual reality application?
– In a generic way, virtual reality may be assumed as any virtual representation of a certain reality. Nevertheless, that term is usually applied to 3D applications with immersion, where the user, with the help of a Head Mounted Display (HMD – the virtual reality helm), is projected to the interior of that virtual 3D world where he can interact with it. In the VIRTUALIS project, we use the concept of virtual reality related with 3D worlds with no immersion. This means that we have 3D virtual representations of scenarios, we can interact with it using the keyboard, mouse or game pad, but we do not use a HMD to project the user to his interior of that world. • What do I need to run a 3D application? – Usually 3D applications require the installation of some 3D libraries. The VIRTUALIS 3D products will require the latest version of the Direct X drivers (V.8.0). To optimize the software performance, it is also recommended a 3D accelerator graphical card but it is not indispensable. A minim
