What is a Video Podcast?
A podcast is a free and publicly available MP3 audio stream (and sometimes downloadable file) usually from an news provider, commentator or entertainment company. A video podcast is just the addition of the video to the stream. Podcasts are typically updated daily or at least weekly. Think of it as a radio/TV show over the web. The term podcast was coined as a result of the iPod phenom, but is not limited to iPods. Other players will support podcasts. Even some broadcasters have changed the name…Fox calls them foxcasts. I’m not sure there is any way to tell who started it because audio and video distribution has been around for years on the web. Cool is a subjective question. It depends on the content that you like and is valuable to you. I used to listen to some of the political commentary from Chris Matthews of MSNBC’s HardBall but I just don’t have time to keep up with the daily casts.
