What is a VAT test, and why do I need one when my battery is dead?
A VAT (Volt Amp Test) test is where the repair facility connects your vehicle to some test equipment to test the vehicles electrical system and should be done whenever you have a dead battery. Your battery may be dead simply because it is old and tired. Or, it may also be dead because your alternator is malfunctioning, or could be several other reasons. The VAT test is designed to identify problems in your electrical system so that the repair facility doesn’t simply treat the symptom of a dead battery, while leaving you stranded down the road because they didn’t catch the actual problem that caused your battery to go dead in the first place.
