A. A vapor barrier is an impermeable membrane that blocks the flow of air through the building envelope. The function of a vapor barrier is to protect the envelope structure and insulation from condensation damage. Vapor Barriers should be installed on the warm side of the insulation.

The vapor barrier consist of a cementitious material, typically thick and is inserted between the finished product and the frame of the shower or tub surround. If the barrier isnt of cementitious value, it will never hold up to moisture and temperature extremes. All wet areas must be installed with this type of product; failure to do so will result in extensive and costly repair or replacement.
