What is a vacation rental Scam?
Unfortunately there are scams in all industries and the vacation rental industry is no different. As an owner you must beware of scammers. They come in many forms but there are a few tell tale signs. The most prominent sign is if a potential renter sends you more money than you requested and asks you to send the difference back. Stop right there! This is a scam. Typically the check they sent is bogus but by the time you cash it and the bank catches on, it is too late and after you wired or sent the difference back to the renter. These scammers also typically give too much information in their initial inquiry, are very often from outside the US, are flexible on travel dates, are purchasing the trip for someone else, refer to wiring services such as Western Union and/or have noticeably bad spelling and grammar. If you feel an inquiry may be a scam, do not respond. Contact FBI at www.ic3.gov and please contact us at info@bicityvacationrentals.com.
