What is a V-1 visa?

0

A V-1 visa is technically a nonimmigrant visa. Because the process is similar to that of an immigrant visa, however, the Immigrant Visa Unit of the U.S. Embassy in Panama handles V-1 visas. The V-1 visa is for the beneficiary of a Form I-130 (Petition for Alien Relative) filed by that person’s legal permanent resident (LPR) spouse. The Form I-130 must have been filed on or before December 21, 2000, among other requirements. This type of visa allows the holder to travel to the United States and then become a legal permanent resident (LPR) via adjustment of status. V-2 visas are for a child who is the principal beneficiary of a petition filed by his/her LPR parent, and V-3 visas are for the children of V-1 or V-2 applicants.
