A UW is an unofficial withdrawal, meaning you stopped attending the course. An E is a failing grade. Both count the same in your GPA. You may petition to have a UW changed to a W, so it will no longer affect your GPA. The best remedy for an E or UW is retaking the course, but you will want to consult with your academic advisor for advice.
