What is a U channel?
A… A “U” channel is a 1″ piece of vinyl that is attached to the post and hides the ends of the slats. Most companies will tell you that you absolutely need them and that if you don’t have them your fence will bow towards the sun. I call tell you that Tan vinyl does indeed have a tendency to bow toward the sun, but U-channels will not stop it. U-channels in my personal opinion hide errors made by the installer. Also, to install a U-channel, you have to use screws to attach it to each post on either side of the panel. Sometimes, the screw will draw out some vinyl from the post and lodge between the channel and the post giving you a small area you can see through to your neighbor’s yard.
