What is a typical day like for a legislative intern?
Most legislative interns will tell you there is no such thing as a typical day in the legislature, however, most days almost always include handling constituent inquiries, writing (newsletter articles, press releases, letters, speeches, etc.), and general administrative duties. Since the number of staff in each members office can vary from one person to four or more, work responsibilities will also vary. One day an intern may be responsible for answering the phones in an office and scheduling for a member, while the next day the intern may be researching a public policy issue and taking notes during a committee hearing. It is important to keep in mind that you will be given a variety of duties during the 13 months of the program, and that they will grow in substance and importance as the year progresses.
