What is a typical day in the life of a general BioMed Technician?
There are three main types of positions for BioMed Technicians. The first and most common would be as an in-house BioMed Technician; the second would be as a third party contractor; and the third would be as an in-house or field service technician for a medical equipment manufacturer. At a hospital you would work a typical 40-hour week maintaining medical equipment and providing support to clinical staff regarding the use of that equipment. Third-party contractors maintain equipment for smaller hospitals and clinics that do not have in-house BioMed Technicians. As a third-party contractor, you would frequently travel to the location of the equipment and possibly stay over at that site for varied lengths of days. Faulty equipment is sometimes fixed on the spot and sometimes sent back to the shop to be worked on. Third-party contractors also could spend a great deal of time in the shop maintaining equipment.
