What is a turtleback book binding?

It’s where there’s a sort of cardboard or thicker paper to make it a more durable paperback. It’s something between a hardback and a paperback; I think Persephone Books use that on theirs. A lot of times if a book is turtleback they will have dust jackets even though the covers are still soft and flexible. I believe it’s called a turtleback because of the extra shell of protection layered over it through the added cardboard or laminate protection.
