What is a true “Online” UPS system?
The protected computer system, or “critical load”, is powered by the inverter at all times. The inverter is what changes DC power from the rectifier or battery into AC current. This process is called “double conversion” (AC to DC, then DC to AC). The protected system is isolated from input variations (frequency and voltage) at all times. These variations are often caused by reduction in electrical voltage from the power utility described as sags or brownouts, or from variations created by auxiliary power sources such as generators.
