What is a tropical depression?

A tropical depression is a tropical disturbance that is a bit more organized, has a closed circulation, and wind speeds of 20 to 34 kts, or 25 to 38 mph.

Only putting together the bits I know, but I hope it fits correctly. The normal depression is just an isobar under around 1000 millibars of pressure. Because of the heat of the tropical seas, the pressures can go down there to around 950mbs, meaning much heavier rain and stronger winds, and of course the hurricanes that can only form above a certain water temperature. So if you’re at sea or livng near the coast and they forecast a tropical depression you know to take the washing in, at least! But if you live in Hendon or Finchley you know not to worry about it as you’re 51′ North and therefore unaffected!
