What is a “trickle down”?

0

A “trickle down” computer replacement occurs if you wish for someone else to receive the new computer (instead of the person who has the eligible computer). For example, if Professor Smith has a Dell OptiPlex GX280, Professor Smith is eligible to receive a new computer. Professor Jones, however, has a Dell OptiPlex GX620 (which is eligible for replacement the following year), but has a greater need for a faster computer than Professor Smith. To solve this problem, you can schedule a “trickle down” replacement. Professor Jones would receive the new, faster computer. We would then transfer Professor Jones’ GX620 to Professor Smith, and we would take away Professor Smith’s GX280. Although Professor Smith ends up with a slower, older computer than Professor Jones, Professor Smith would be eligible for a new computer (again) the following year (when we pick up the GX620’s). You can only schedule one “trickle down” per eligible computer replacement.
