What is a Trash Compactor?
A trash compactor performs a simple function. Using a crushing force between one and three tons, a compactor compresses at least two to three standard trash loads into one compacted bag. Most trash compactors have a sliding drawer, into which you place your trash. When you close the drawer and press the start button, the motor turns a belt or chain that connects to two drive screws. All compactors basically work in this way and have only a few moving parts, namely, the motor (which runs at about 1/3 horsepower), drive screws, and ram. The main differences between individual compactors lie in the capacity they offer and the noise at which they operate. The two major types of trash compactors are freestanding and under the counter models. Some manufacturers also offer models that can operate either fr

Trash compactor bags cost more than typical kitchen trash bags, but are changed less frequently. Trash compactors have several advantages, but a few disadvantages. The appli
