What is a Transcranial Doppler test?
The transcranial doppler test is a valuable diagnostic test that involves making an ultrasound recording of blood flow in the brain before and during the injection of agitated saline (saline which contains micro bubbles). How do I prepare for the test? There is no special preparation required. You should come as you are and eat or drink as you normally do. If you take medications, you should continue to take them as normal unless your doctor specifies otherwise. What should I expect when I arrive? Upon arrival at the London Heart Centre, our friendly staff will greet you. You will be asked to complete registration form, including payment details. If you have medical insurance, you will need to inform them prior to the test and obtain authorisation number. We may also ask you to provide a request form from your doctor for the test, if your doctor has not sent us one. The test will last 30 minutes but expect to be at London Heart Centre for 45 minutes.
