What is a top-up, topping up?

Adding pay as you go (payg) to your Oyster card is called topping up, or adding a top-up. You can add a maximum of £50 in one transaction and have up to £90 on the card. After topping up you just touch in and out for every journey and the lowest fare will be deducted from the card.
