What is a tilted womb?
In 90 per cent of women the womb is tilted forwards and flexed forwards (anteverted and anteflexed). In the remaining 10 per cent of women the uterus is tilted backwards (retroverted) and may also be flexed backwards (retroflexed). Whichever way your womb is tilted when examined your doctor would find that the womb is mobile, ie it moves when pressure is exerted on it. That your doctor has detected that you have a ’tilted’ womb is not a cause for concern. This is just one example of the different ways in which women develop. If a woman has pelvic pain, backache and pain when having intercourse, and is also found to have a womb which is retroverted and ‘fixed’, ie not mobile when examined, then this may be due to pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), and would need investigation by a gynaecologist.
