The TigerCat is a Navy twin engine fighter.  The F7F, entered service in 1944.  As with all Navy and Marine Corps aircraft it was designed to be carrier based on the Midway class of carriers.  These carriers were bigger than previously commissioned carriers and could accommodate the size of this aircraft.  It was designed for higher speed, 300mph.   There is one on display at the Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola Florida on Naval Air Station Pensacola.
