What is a texture?

0

Textures are photographs or image files, such as .jpg, .png, and .gif files. They are applied to prims to give them a different appearance. For example, to create plants and flowers, a cutout of the plant detail can be created with a transparent background, applied to the prim, and you can see through the areas of the prim that are transparent, but the rest of the prim will either appear solid or have the “texture” of the plant. Many merchants in Second Life sell textures that can be used by other residents and used in products for sale to other residents. Daybreak Designs uses many of our own original textures in the products we sell, however, we occasionally use full perm textures created by others.

The word texture refers to the roughness embossed into the glass which gives it a sparkle or life when light is introduced. Most textured glass is colorless but some are available with color.
