What is a swivel chair?
A swivel chair is a chair that can turn from side to side or all the way around on it’s base.
Swivel chairs are available in numerous designs and styles. They can be used in multiple parts of the home, as well in offices and other businesses. Choosing a swivel chair type, will depend on your needs and where the chair will be.
Office
An office swivel chair can be made of leather or fabric. Some have arm rests and a high back so that they are comfortable while sitting at a desk and working for long hours. The arm rests may or may not be covered in matching material or they may be made of the same material that the frame is made of. While others may be of a more basic design and have a low back and no arm rests. The frame can be made of plastic, steel or wood and the height can usually be adjusted as well.
Bar Stools
Many bar stools have a swivel base as well. These are much taller to reach the top of a bar and may have a lower back on them. They can be made of wood, plastic or metal and the back may be covered in fabric or leather. The bottom of the chair portion may swivel on the stand or the very bottom of the stand may have a swivel in it to turn the chair.
Gaming
A gaming chair may be made of leather or fabric and usually has a tall back and arm rests. Many gaming chairs can be hooked up to the game system for additional motion and sound through the chair. A gaming chair has a swivel so that a gamer can move freely while playing a game.
Recliners
A swivel recliner is similar to a regular recliner, accept that the base has a swivel in it to turn from side to side. A swivel recliner can be made of leather or fabric and usually has a high back, is very padded and arm rests. The recliner may have the foot rest that unfolds from the chair or it may have a foot rest that is permanently extended from the chair.
Within each of these swivel chair types there is a large number of variations, depending on the make and designer of the chairs.
