What is a survival period?
A Survival Period refers to the time that must elapse after you have suffered a severe illness or disability before a claim will be generated. It is known as a survival period because if you die before the survival period has elapsed, only the life cover benefit will pay out to your beneficiaries. An example of this is suffering a heart attack which qualifies for a severe Illness claim, and then dying shortly afterwards. Some companies will only pay you out your death claim whereas others will make both a severe illness and death payment. The length of the survival period varies in the market, and usually ranges between 14 days and 1 month, while Discovery Life does not have a survival period at all.
