What is a “supplemental” motor vehicle tax bill?
If you newly registered a motor vehicle after October 1, (first time registration), you will receive a pro-rated tax bill in December, payable by February 1. This “supplemental” bill will reflect the time from the month the vehicle was first registered, through September only. If you newly registered a vehicle after October 1 (first time registration), you should expect to receive a pro-rated tax bill the following January. This “supplemental” bill will reflect the time from the month the vehicle was first registered, through September (the end of an assessment period).
If you newly registered a motor vehicle after October 1 (The Grand List release date), you will receive a pro-rated tax bill in December, not July, of the following year. Due January 1, payable by February 1. This “supplemental” bill will reflect the time from the month the vehicle was first registered, through August 31. If you replaced a vehicle and used the same plates to register the replacement vehicle, see answer above.
If you register a vehicle after October 1, you will receive a pro-rated tax bill due January 1 following the normal July billing period. This bill will reflect the tax due from the month of the registation through the following September. If you used a plate from another vehicle, a credit will show to offset the July tax paid on that vehicle.
