What is a “streamer” and what requirements does my streamer recovery system have to meet?
A streamer is a rectangular flat strip of flexible material (thin plastic, crepe paper, thick tissue paper, ripstop nylon cloth, etc.) that is rolled up inside the rocket for boost and deploys/unrolls at ejection to provide drag to slow the descent of a rocket. Streamers for TARC must be at least five times as long as they are wide, and must be attached to the part of the rocket containing the egg, using a single line that goes from that part of the rocket to one or more places that are all on the same single narrow end of the streamer. The streamer may be folded and/or creased to increase its drag, but it may not attach to itself in a bow or loop, deliberately or inadvertently. The rocket may deploy and use more than one streamer if desired.
