What is a “stop payment” fee for?
The bank charge for trying to not pay a check you have written. We have people we pay who lose their checks and want us to replace them. We stop payment on the old check giving the bank the name, amount and check number then they have to not pay it if presented for payment. They charge $25 which we could charge our employee if we wanted. It means we would rather they looked a little harder for the lost check. One man lost his under the visor of his truck then cashed it months later when he found it, we had already replaced it.
