What is a static IP address?
A Static IP address is a unique address that has been assigned to a given client for an extended period of time, to be used by only that client (The client does not own that address). The IP address will stay the same and be routable from the Internet. A firewall is required for security when using a static public IP address.
A static IP address is a dedicated, unique address that has been assigned to a given computer or server for an extended period of time. Static IP addresses are needed for e-mail and web servers so that users on the Internet can always access the same server using the same IP address or domain name.
An IP (Internet Protocol) address identifies a computer or other device on the Internet for the purposes of sending or receiving data. It is much like a telephone number. Having a static IP enables you to be able to host a server or setup VPN’s or remotely administer your computer. Basically you always know where on the internet your machine is because it isn’t moving around. Also, you never have to click connect or use the Dial-up software emulator called PPPoE.
