Spiral galaxies are flattened systems with nucleus, a disk, and arms of bright young stars, gas and dust. Most of these galaxies have just one arm wrapped around the nucleus, although some have two or even three arms. The Milky Way galaxy, in which our solar system is located, and nearby Andromeda galaxy are both spiral galaxies.
